Summer is officially (almost) here, and with it comes the affects summer days can have on your pipes. Let us help you show your pipes some love. Keep reading for the guide you didn’t know you needed this summer.
Check for Leaks and Drips
Start with your showerhead, then move into inspecting your faucets and under your sinks. A quick check will go a long way!
- Are there damp spots? Inspect areas in your home for signs of hidden leaks. Damp spots help you identify the potential leak.
- Are your connections loose? Tighten any loose connections, or replace worn washers.
Test Water Pressure
Time to observe! Turn on your faucets to observe the flow. If you see the water pouring at a lower pressure, this may be an indication of sediment build up or a hidden leak. Inversely, if the pressure is too high, you may want to install a pressure regulator.
- Fun fact! You can gauge water pressure by using a pressure gauge to measure. Ideal range is from 40-60 psi.
- If your pressure is too high, it maybe time to install a pressure regulator.
Check on Your Outdoor Plumbing
If you have a sprinkler system, you’ll want to use timers to avoid overwatering and reduce strain on your system.
- Are there hidden leaks? Inspect your hoses, sprinkler systems, and outdoor spigots for crack and leaks.
- Stay alert! Ensure your hose bibs are not dripping after use.
- How are your sprinklers doing? Clean sprinkler heads and test for even coverage.
Check Your Fridge
If your fridge has an icemaker or dispenser, you’ll want to check it for wear or unwanted moisture on the floor, that may be due to an issue with your waterline.
- How are your water filters? Clean them as needed to help avoid potential issues.
- How is the water line? Inspect the waterline to be aware of potential leaks.
